Gary's Bakery is a family owned and locally operated business. Located in downtown Madison, South Dakota, the bakery opened in December 1984.
A satellite store in Howard, South Dakota was opened in May 1986. The Howard store closed in 2012. However, Gary's Bakery items are still available in Howard at Rusty's Grocery Store.
Gary's Bakery (the Madison location) added hot breakfast and lunch menu items in 1993 and changed their name to Gary's Bakery and Cafe.
Shortly after the Lewis store in Madison opened around 2002, Gary's Bakery items became available providing customers with another location to pick up their bakery goodies.
In 2015, the breakfast and lunch menu was discontinued providing a specialized approach to focus on bakery only items. This also meant that Cafe was removed from the name.
In December 2020, Gary's Bakery items became available at Lewis in Brookings, SD.
